What Is Cold-Pressed Dog Food?

Cold-pressed dog food is made by combining ingredients into a dough and pressing it through a die at lower temperatures, typically below 90°C, to form dense, dry pieces. Unlike conventional kibble, which is cooked at high temperatures during extrusion, cold pressing uses less heat during the forming stage.

It is not frozen, and it is not necessarily raw. The ingredients are usually cooked or prepared before pressing, and the precise production process varies by manufacturer. The result is a compact, shelf-stable dry food with a different texture and density from standard extruded kibble.

Conventional dry kibble is made through high-temperature extrusion, where ingredients are cooked under pressure at temperatures above 100°C, then forced through a die and dried. This process creates the familiar light, crunchy kibble shape.
